The Miami Heat must have known for years it would now have a hot ticket. The franchise has a new system that allows fans to buy season tickets online, without ever talking to a human being.
According to a story on Wired.com, the team has been working for several years on a system called SeatPick -- way before LeBron James and Chris Bosh told the world they would join Dwayne Wade in South Beach.
Fans can now go online anytime they want, pick the seats they want, and even see 3-D images of the views from that seat.
"After all the analysis, the conclusion was that folks will buy what they want on the day they want,” Heat chief information officer Tony Coba, who oversaw the SeatPick project, told Wired.com. “There was no crystal ball that gave us an edge in deciding which packages were more appealing to fans than others.”
Of course, the Heat had no problem selling season tickets once James and Bosh signed -- and you wonder how much technology played a part versus big names. The tix actually sold out so quickly, the team ironically laid off its entire 30-person sales staff. The Heat won't say how many season tickets it sold, but reports say the waiting list is now more than 6,000.
